Gifts

All gifts must be made by credit card on the CoMoGives website (www.CoMoGives.com) between 12:01 a.m. CST 11/29/22, and 11:59:59 p.m. CST 12/31/22, to be eligible for the CoMoGives campaign. While the campaign is named CoMoGives, donations are made to the Community Foundation of Central Missouri, which runs CoMoGives. Only MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, and Discover donations will be accepted for CoMoGives. Gifts of cash or checks are not acceptable unless they are from a donor’s employer providing a matching gift or a donor making an IRA transfer contribution (keep reading). If a company writes a matching gift check it must be postmarked on or before December 31 to be counted in Challenge Grant totals. If a donor wishes to make a gift and cannot do so online, the donor should email info@cfcmfoundation.org or call 573-817-5027 to discuss options. We will accept checks if they are RMD or QCD transfers from a qualified IRA retirement account. Each RMD or QCD gift must be designated for only one participating organization and be a minimum of $500 for an organization. If you wish to give RMD or QCD donations to multiple organizations, multiple checks are required. CFCM is not permitted to split larger RMD or other transfer gifts designated to multiple organizations. RMD or QCD checks are payable to Community Foundation of Central Missouri, with “CoMoGives” and the name of your chosen organization clearly entered on the memo line or check stub, and mailed to Community Foundation of Central Missouri, PO Box 6015, Columbia, MO 65205. CoMoGives does not accept gifts of transferred securities.

Eligibility

To be eligible for CoMoGives, all gifts must be made by donors. A donor is defined as an individual, foundation, or business entity. Participating organizations are prohibited from donating to themselves, although board members or staff or all organizations are encouraged to make personal donations.

Definitions of Gift

Challenge grants are based on gifts designated to particular organizations through CoMoGives. A unique gift is defined as one gift to one organization from one donor–multiple gifts to the same organization from the same donor count as one gift for the sum total of the multiple gifts. Donors may give to multiple organizations through the shopping cart with one online transaction, and each individual donation counts as a distinct gift to each organization.

Sharing of Information

Participating nonprofits will receive donor information regarding donations made to the particular nonprofit during the campaign. If a donor wishes to give anonymously, the donor may contact the Community Foundation of Central Missouri at 573-817-5027 or email info@cfcmfoundation.org to discuss options. Donors cannot give anonymously from the CoMoGives website.

Minimum Donation

The minimum gift that will be accepted for CoMoGives Challenge Grants is $10. Donors are encouraged to make gifts of $25 or more to one or more organizations of their choice.

Fundraiser Campaigns

We encourage supporters of organizations to create their own personal Fundraiser campaign(s) in support of their preferred organization(s). Fundraiser campaigns cannot offer alcohol or other potentially dangerous prizes or premiums to Fundraiser campaign donors. A Fundraiser campaign may be described as a supporter creating a challenge for donors to meet, which when met will trigger the Fundraiser campaign organizer (host) to do or give something as a result. A Fundraiser campaign should not be focused around a raffle concept.

Tax Deductions

Each gift is 100% tax deductible and irrevocable. Unless otherwise noted, all gifts are unrestricted. Organizations providing premiums are to declare the value of the premiums to their donors and send notice to the donors accordingly. Donors should consult their tax advisors with questions, especially as they relate to Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) or Qualified Charitable Deduction (QCD) gifts.

Deductions Policy

The Community Foundation of Central Missouri (CFCM), Commerce Bank, MayeCreate Design, KOMU-8, and Cumulus Broadcasting do not receive any portion of CoMoGives donations. The Community Foundation does receive donations designated to the Foundation during CoMoGives as indicated on their campaign page and other checkout options. Actual credit card processing fees are deducted from each transaction, which were only 2.09% for the 2020 campaign. CFCM does not keep any credit card fees paid–they are collected directly by the credit card processor.

Disclosures

The Community Foundation of Central Missouri reserves the right to review all charitable donations and determine their eligibility as qualifying gifts for all CoMoGives Challenge Grants.
